Meeting of the Eurasian Expedition of Busan with students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Ablai khan KazUIRand WL

August 25-26, 2023 Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages named after Ablai Khan was visited by a delegation of the Eurasian Expedition in Busan (Republic of Korea). This visit is part of a large program to promote the city of Busan as a candidate for EXPO-2030. The city of Almaty is the first city of Central Asia on the way to European countries for the expedition.

For the second year in a row, the Eurasian expedition includes in its rich program a visit to Ablai khan KazUIRand WL and a joint event with students of the Korean department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The delegation of the Eurasian Expedition led by the deputies of the City Assembly of Busan, Mr. Song Chang Yong and Ms. Kim Hyo Jong, was cordially received by Vice-Rector for International Relations Zhyltyrova Zh.T., Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Kagazbayeva E.M., Head of the Department for International Cooperation Abdigappar T.E., employees of the Center for Korean Studies of Ablai khan KazUIRandWL, students of the Korean department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. During the meeting, the guests visited the museum of Ablai khan in KazUIRandWL. The program of the meeting of students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies with students of universities in Busan included a presentation about Kazakhstan and our university, which was prepared by students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies in Korean. The South Korean delegation prepared a presentation on preparations for EXPO-2030. Students from the two countries also prepared concert numbers, student Zhumagali Madina performed the Kazakh folk kui “Akbakai” on the flute and Nurmamet Moldir performed a K-pop dance.

On August 26, another meeting of students of the Korean department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies with the delegation of the Eurasian Cultural Center of Busan took place. For guests from South Korea, Director of the Center for Korean Studies of KazUIRandWL Kim Ulyana gave a lecture on the history of the resettlement of Koreans in Central Asia, on the life, culture and language of the Korean diaspora in Kazakhstan. The guests, in turn, spoke about the preparation of Busan for the EXPO-2030, talked with the students of our university and were pleasantly surprised by the level of knowledge of the Korean language of our students, and also expressed their deep gratitude for the meeting organized by the Center for Korean Studies at KazUIRand WL, International Department of the University and the Faculty of Oriental Studies. In memory of the meeting, guests from the Republic of Korea presented our university with collections of poems by the famous Korean poet Kim Sowol.
